Tikkun Olam Committee

In Hebrew, Tikkun Olam means “repairing the world.” Temple Israel’s Tikkun Olam committee brings members of the congregation together around issues of social justice. In our activities, we work to act in solidarity with vulnerable communities and build relationships across lines of difference. Temple Israel partners with CHUM to help improve the lives of Duluth community members, through advocacy, volunteerism and fundraising.

A few of our ongoing projects:

  • Yom Kippur food drive

  • Hanukkah hat and glove drive

  • National Night Out

  • Joint Religious Legislative Coalition’s annual Day on the Hill

  • Collecting tuna for the CHUM foodshelf

  • Sponsoring the Lifehouse Prom

  • Annual Beach Sweep

  • Serving Christmas dinner at Union Gospel Mission

Updates

Temple Israel Little Free Library – Donations Needed

Please drop off your book donations inside Temple -- the side entrance. There's a box set up. We need books for children and adults. Used books are fine. After Temple hours, you can put your book donations right into the Little Free Library.

Tuna Collection Update!

Thanks to all of you for bringing tuna for the CHUM food shelf. Right now it is best to send checks or to donate online at www.chumduluth.org

If you have cans and pouches, don't bring them to Temple for now. You may drop them off in the alley, at the drop off window, between 1st and 2nd street, across from the Avenue-facing CHUM facility doors. (driving up the hill, turn right into the alley).
